The Philadelphia Contributionship Announces Selection of President and Chief Executive Officer

December 18, 2019

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Contributionship (TPC) today announced Thomas Greenfield has joined the company as president and chief executive officer. The search was conducted by the executive search practice of The Jacobson Group. Joyce Dunn, vice president and managing partner, led this successful engagement.

“We are fortunate to have found someone of Tom Greenfield’s caliber and experience to lead The Philadelphia Contributionship,” said Scott Jenkins, TPC chairman. “We are at a pivotal moment in our long history. With Tom’s leadership, we will continue to successfully implement visionary strategies, allowing us to take advantage of the market opportunities still ahead. Tom has a proven track record of execution and a solid understanding of our products, markets and stakeholders. His excellent communication skills, customer-focused mindset and strong leadership capabilities will help him quickly settle into our organization and his new role.”

Greenfield is taking over the mantle from Robert Whitlock, Jr., FCAS, MAAA, who was appointed president and chief executive officer in 2009. Whitlock will retire later this year, following a tenure hallmarked by change and collaboration.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to have had the opportunity to lead this historic company for the past ten years. I’ve been blessed to work with a terrific group of insurance professionals who are focused on delivering great products and outstanding service to our policyholders. Now it’s time to turn over the reins of Ben Franklin’s company to the capable hands of Tom Greenfield,” said Whitlock.

Greenfield will provide strategic leadership for the company, working with the board and the leadership team to establish long-range goals and plans. He will also be responsible for ensuring the Contributionship operates in accordance with its vision: to be the most reliable partner for people seeking to protect their homes and their futures.

“Tom’s strategic outlook, results-oriented approach and transparent communication style will help him be a strong leader for the Contributionship,” said Dunn. “His collaborative nature and conviction will support him as the face of the company.”

Greenfield joined Aetna as an underwriting trainee after graduating from college and then spent 11 years progressing within the company. His next role was with Republic Insurance as an underwriting manager for the Northeast, ultimately becoming a senior vice president for QBE after various mergers and reorganizations. Eventually, Greenfield moved back to Republic as senior vice president and chief underwriting officer. In 2016, he was elevated to divisional president and CEO of Republic.

Greenfield is a graduate of Boston College with a degree in finance, and he has an MBA from Babson College in Wellesley, Mass. He has earned his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant and Chartered Life Underwriter designations.

“I’m greatly looking forward to the opportunity to develop and execute strategic advances at The Philadelphia Contributionship,” said Greenfield. “The organization’s talented team and long-standing history will serve us well as we continue to positively impact our clients.”
