Panelists Share Benefits of Insurance Careers with Students

CHICAGO — The insurance talent crisis is now an industry-wide reality. By 2020, the industry will need to fill 400,000 new roles, in addition to backfilling open positions left as nearly half of the insurance labor force retires. Despite the pressing need for young professionals to fill these gaps, tired misconceptions drive emerging talent to careers in more attractive industries. 
The Insurance Careers Movement (ICM) is dedicated to combatting this talent gap and raising the awareness of insurance career opportunities. Together with industry insiders, ICM presented a “Day in the Life” insurance panel on May 13, 2017. Hosted at The Jacobson Group’s global headquarters in Chicago, the panel featured young insurance professionals sharing their dynamic career paths with students from Cornell College.
The panel was moderated by Caitlin Robinson, senior visual communications coordinator at Jacobson. Panelists included Brandon Davis, director of public relations and social responsibility at CNA; Katherine Gray, government programs divisional strategist at health care service corporation; Ryan Fitzpatrick, TRAC associate – aviation and aerospace at Marsh USA; and Jon Perry, assistant vice president of the public directors and officers division at Allied World Insurance Company. The panel introduced students to the stable, rewarding and limitless nature of a career in the industry and discussed diverse career paths and experiences.
“Insurance goes far beyond what people think,” said Davis. “That’s why we’re working hard to change those perceptions.”
“Correcting these misconceptions is a driving force behind ICM,” added Robinson. “It is crucial that we introduce the next generation to the wide range of available opportunities in the insurance industry, and panels like this one help spread that message.”
